Climate Change
Were still picking our way through UKCP09. But on first glance, some simple conclusions from the predictions seem to be pretty significant for the future of outdoor events.
Summer rainfall seems set to decrease, possibly extending to the 5 month period from May to September (depending on the location). With the possible exception of Scotland, most regions seem very likely to experience less summer (June, July, August) rainfall in the coming decades. In addition rainfall also looks set to fall in May and September in these regions.
So not only may June/July/August outdoor events in the future suffer less rainfall, the season during which theyre viable may well increase to encompass May and September.
The UKCP09 model does make detailed raw data available, so we should be able to see how the number of rainy days will change during a month, or the number of days with over a particular level of rainfall. Well be looking at the models predictions in greater detail.
